The Russian market of utilitarian off-road vehicles is divided between the Land Rover Defender and the Jeep Wrangler. The first has already become a household name in certain circles, while the second is known to a rather small number of people. Kyuto.Ru spent a week in the company of a Native American and happily joined a small Jeep fan club.

Every time there are rumors in the press about one or another representative of the class of explorers of fords and quarries, comments from the camp of the enemy immediately follow. No sooner had the rumors about the transfer of “Defender” to the category of frameless crossovers, Jeep hinted at the rejection of the use of continuous bridges in future “Ranglers”.

One way or another, but both models are guaranteed to be the last in their generation of mechanical bezdorozhnikami. Now their design is similar to the thread: both are based on the frame, have front-wheel drive, fitted with differential locks and the ability to move in low gear. However, the Jeep has a trump card hidden in its sleeve, which Defender is unable to boast.

  Wrangler, despite the absurdity of what was said, can ride. A 2.5-liter British diesel engine is capable of dragging a car up to hundreds of kilometers per hour in 17.5 seconds, while an American can double this result. Jeep, unlike Land Rover, when creating a car, argued in a manner peculiar to the USA: if the weight of the car is large and it is controlled very out of hand, then at least drive fast in a straight line. That is exactly why a 3.6-liter gasoline six-cylinder engine is under the hood of the Rangler. A pair of this mastodon is played by a five-step “automatic machine”, which has long been receiving pension contributions.

At the very moment when Chrysler brought the Wrangler out of the country, he was surprised to find that the cost of a liter of gasoline in Europe is different from the pair of gold coins required at an American gas station. This day can be considered the birth of a “Rangler” with a diesel engine - an outcast machine with a mechanical transmission that is not sold in the brand’s homeland.

The hood is held by two plastic plugs located on the left and right sides. In part, this is dictated by the cases of torpedoing trees, after which the cable was broken and made it impossible for the owner to get to the engine compartment. The gas tank hatch is opened exclusively with a key, so you cannot avoid a dialogue with a tanker with 10 rubles for tea.

The multimedia complex allows you to listen to music from a variety of sources, ranging from radio, to flash drives, and even has a wireless voice connection. Rangler’s navigation is not and cannot be. You will not have time for a dialogue with a lonely GPS point among the green field.

After a week spent in the countryside with a Jeep Wrangler, there are not many words describing this car. Perhaps this is the case when a one-time trip in combat conditions would say a lot more than paragraphs of sentences. And even if you are not a fan of mud trophies, simply remove the side spacers, unhook the roof and enjoy the American all-wheel drive convertible.
