It became known that the Houston police arrested two hackers who hijacked about 30 Jeep cars in 6 months. The criminals were only able to be detained thanks to the recording from a video surveillance camera.
It is reported that a pair of car thieves, hackers, specialized in stealing only Jeep cars. They exploited a vulnerability in the FIAT Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) software installed on these machines. Despite the fact that earlier journalists were able to remotely take control of the Jeep Cherokee electronics, the company said it had eliminated this scandalous “hole” in the software.
On the trail of hackers Michael Arcy and Jesse Zeli, the police managed to get through the video of one of the episodes of their criminal career, when they hijacked a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The police did not say exactly how the hackers broke into the security system of more than 30 hijacked Jeep: using the connection via OBD II or via USB protocol.
We add that all in all, more than 100 cases of theft of FCA cars that have been hacked using similar software methods are being investigated. In turn, the FCA conducts internal proceedings in these cases.
Earlier it was reported that hackers managed to crack the management of Jeep Cherokee.
