The British office of the American company Jeep organized a competition in which the top SUV Grand Cherokee SRT fought on the track with the German aerobatics monoplane Silence SA1100 Twister.
According to the organizer, it was the first race in history in which the all-wheel drive car competed with the aircraft on the racetrack.
It is known that the competition took place at the Blyton Park Driving Center in Lincolnshire. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT was driven by the youngest British pilot and professional racer Ed Morris, who participated in the “24 Hours of Le Mans”.
At the helm of the aircraft was an expert in aerobatics with 25 years of experience, Peter Wells. He had to fly strictly over the highway, guiding the car between specially installed pylons.
It is reported that during the race, both the plane and the SUV reached a speed of 225 km per hour. The car traveled a distance of 2.9 kilometers in 1 minute, 13.40 seconds, beating the aircraft by almost 1 second. The monoplane overcame this distance in 1 minute 14.36 seconds.
Add that the American Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is equipped with a 6.4-liter 8-cylinder HEMI engine, with a capacity of 468 "horses." The car accelerates to hundreds of kilometers in 5 seconds, and its maximum speed is 257 km / h. It is noted that the original HEMI engine with hemispherical combustion chambers was designed specifically for the American fighter from the time of World War II, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.
In turn, the sports ultra-light aircraft Silence SA1100 Twister is equipped with a 2.6-liter power unit, developing 110 "horses." In the air, the monoplane is gaining “a hundred” in 4 seconds (during a takeoff run, in 12 seconds), and its maximum speed is 286 km per hour.
