Since 1977, when the first representatives of this model went to the buyers, more than 26 million units were sold. This is a clear confirmation that a better, more reliable and attractive pickup has not yet been created. But, unfortunately, the best representative of the class in our country is not officially sold.
The best pickup for Russia
In Russia, attention to pick-ups is quite low due to the price policy of manufacturers. Part of the reason for the low marketability is also the poor prevalence of farms - the main consumers of pickups across the ocean. Therefore, from the above list of American leaders in Russia, not all models are available.
To determine the best pick-up for Russia, let's also turn to sales, but in our country. According to the Avtostat agency, the top three of the market is as follows:
- Toyota Hilux (from 2,018,000 rubles);
- UAZ Pickup (from 885 thousand rubles);
- Mitsubishi L200 (from 1,779,000 rubles).
Prices are excluding manufacturers 'discounts and dealers' stocks.
Bearing in mind that the closing three L200 was bought for the whole year in the amount of 1,517 pieces, there is practically no point in mentioning the other participants in the rating.
Why did Russians love these three models? To determine whether the number of sales says that the car is better than its competitors, let's get acquainted with the rating participants closer.

The best pick-up of the year on the territory of the Russian Federation in 2016 bought 3,670 times. "Toyota Hilux" is offered to Russians in three configurations: "Standard", "Comfort", "Prestige". If the task is to choose equipment for the transportation of oversized cargo and to save as much as possible, it is definitely worth buying a UAZ Pickup, which, after a certain amount of investment (at least for decent rubber and locking the rear differential), will not be a complete competitor to the Japanese, but a very pleasant car. The main thing to remember is that this machine was created not for pleasure, but for work and getting the maximum benefit.
Of the three leaders of the Russian market, the best off-road pickup will be the L200. Its superb all-wheel drive transmission SuperSelect has the function of 4HLc, which blocks the “center” even without downsizing. This is a great solution for “moderate dirt”. In the same place, where only tanks will not be afraid to pass, the “Japanese” will proudly pass through the center differential and the rigid rear blocking. Good "geometry" provides him with confident and fast movement on the slopes and ascents, even on soft soils.
If the task is to buy a quality car that can take the owner anywhere with minimum cost and maximum comfort, then you should buy a Hilux pickup with a rigidly connected front axle and a ponizhaykoy, at the same time with which you can use the rear inter-skirt.
