Volkswagen unveiled the latest flagship fastback Arteon one day before the official premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, which started today. Artheon is based on the MQB modular “trolley”, its length and wheelbase are larger than that of the Volkswagen Passat SS. Arteon was originally planned by German automakers as the heir to the Passat CC sedan. This model was supposed to conquer the market and oust the Passat from it. The most important task was the construction of Volkswagen Arteon to the rank of a new face of the brand, because the old for decades has already become rather familiar. Externally Volkswagen Arteon unequivocally, the designers copied from the conceptual model of the Sport Coupe GTE, which the Germans publicly demonstrated two years ago.
But the similarity, of course, is not complete. There are no recessed handles flush with the surface of the doors in the new fastback; here there are normal handles, the whole line of bundles is equipped only with LED optics. The novelty is related to the Czech Skoda Superb along the length of the wheelbase: it has the same 2 m 84.1 cm between the axles. The wheelbase of the Passat SS this figure exceeds by exactly five centimeters. Body length Volkswagen Arteon and the Skoda Superb also almost coincide: Artheon is only one millimeter longer (4 m 86.2 cm), the Passat body is 9.5 cm shorter 
About the Czech flagship liftback was not mentioned here by chance. The fact is that the technical characteristics of the novelty and Skoda Superb very similar. By the way, the word "fastback"began to call the liftbacks, having a more athletic form, to emphasize this sportiness of the car. And if they decompose - the space will increase to 1577 liters.
The driver's seat resembles that of the Passata SS, but the finish is more interesting and high quality. The center console is crowned with the most up-to-date multimedia device with a 9.2-inch touchscreen diagonal. But poking a finger at it is not at all necessary: the display perfectly recognizes the gestures of the driver. It is clear that gestures must be specific, of those that are stitched in the brains of multimedia. The driver can pre-examine and work them out. And then, God forbid, the car will understand it wrong and instead of music will turn on the fire extinguisher. 
Under the hood at Arthéon It is a 1.5-liter turbo engine Evo, issuing at the peak of one and a half hundred horses. The turbine is unique for its class - it has a variable geometry. The second engine is also a compressor, with a working volume of two liters. It is installed in two versions: one for 190, the second - for 280 horsepower. The third engine in the engine range is a two-liter turbo diesel, which, depending on the firmware and the supercharger, gives 150, 190 or 240 horsepower. 
Transmission in all configurations - robotic. In addition, the assembly with the "younger" engines in the line can work with a six-speed manual. Fastbacks with the "older" engines - gasoline for 280 and diesel for 240 "horses" are equipped with 4Motion system. In the assembly with a 190-horsepower diesel engine, all-wheel drive is available as an additional option. All other assemblies with front-wheel drive only. On the European car market Volkswagen Arteon start selling from the third week of June. About the supply to our car market, the Germans still do not say anything. At last year's Geneva Motor Show Volkswagen, I remember, was represented by the flagship sedan Phideon, platform with Audi A6 with a longitudinally mounted engine.
