Many simply dream that the wheels of their cars are not subject to punctures, but few know that there is already a technology for making such tires, and they can be installed on your own car, though under certain conditions, but first things first. .

Run Flat Tire Technology

Run Flat tire technology, although quite original and advanced, still does not make tires completely impenetrable (although the advertisement of these tires suggests the opposite), it allows you to survive the puncture almost painlessly and easily get to the nearest service to eliminate the puncture.

As a rule, the use of these tires ensures that the driver will be able to drive a car for at least eighty more kilometers after a tire has been punctured if he does not exceed the speed of more than eighty kilometers per hour. As a rule, this reserve is enough to get to the workshop on your own, and not to stand on the road and wait for a tow truck. It is quite natural that, for the realization of the above possibilities, such tires should have a construction different from the standard one.

Tires produced using Run Flat technology may differ in their design into three basic types, each of which has its own characteristics.

The first type can be attributed to tires, the design of which allows the initial shape to be maintained when the wheel is broken through. Such tires are characterized by higher rigidity of profiles and sides, and it is thanks to this property that these tires are able to maintain shape even after they puncture. The technology for making such tires is that when they are made, metal rings are soldered into rubber, which do not allow the tire to pick up an accordion after a puncture or shrink, keeping the original shape for a long time.

Types of Run Flat Tire Designs

  1. Another type of tire is those that have the ability to self-seal a puncture from the inside. The structure of these tires is such that, when a puncture of the outer layer appears, the inner layer in this place is compressed in such a way that it does not allow air to go outside, which makes it possible to keep the wheel in good condition for some time.
  2. Another variant of such tires is their counterpart, in which the holes that appear are not sealed with a rubber interlayer, but with a special compound that is pre-pumped into the tire and insulates the holes from the inside as they appear.
  3. The third type of tire data implies the presence of auxiliary elements that strengthen the tire. These elements are plates located between the disk and the tire, and possessing sufficient rigidity to, in case of a puncture, to keep the wheel in its original shape for a long time, making it possible to get to the service center normally.

Of course, with all the advantages of these unusual tires, they also have disadvantages, because of which it is simply impossible to take and install such tires on any car. First of all, it should be borne in mind that these tires have a fairly rigid course, and the usual suspension for their installation is simply not suitable, as the car will be poorly controlled, and on a snowy or slippery road in general can become uncontrolled.

An important requirement for the installation of such tires is the presence of an adaptive suspension on the car, which will compensate for the stiffness of the rubber, and will increase the drivability of the car to a normal level. In addition, these tires are quite expensive, and install them on low-cost cars is simply inappropriate.
