Body types

Time does not stand still, and the automotive industry seeks to create the best projects and bring them to life. Transmission, engine, driving performance, everything is improved every day. So the car body keeps up with the times, and with the desire of the consumer to get something modern and reliable.

When designing a new body, engineers put in a lot of energy in order to achieve not only the beauty of the design. Passenger safety and environmental impact are perhaps the main factor in bodywork.

Initially, only the carrier part was used in cars, which consisted of a frame and a car body. In this design, the body assumed most of the load from the passengers and cargo. All other impacts fell on the frame of the car, which, of course, was the connecting element of all components. Directly to the frame attached most of the components and mechanisms. To date, there are three types of carrier part:

  • frame;
  • combined;
  • with a monocoque body.

Frame body structure

This design involves the structure of the car, on which all the technical components and important elements are mounted on the frame. These elements include - some parts of the suspension, transmission, engine, bridges, and of course the body itself. In simple words, it is the skeleton of a person who carries all the vital organs. Frame cars are rightfully the most durable, such a machine can withstand heavy loads, even if it is a load carrying capacity or throughput. This design have these SUVs, trucks, vans.

Types of body frames

There are several main types: Spar frame, or it is also called "ladder". In such a frame there are no weak points, all the elements are particularly durable, therefore such frames are installed on powerful tractors and commercial vehicles.

Spine frame

In this design, the central frame is strongly reinforced, which is a transmission tube. It is used on cars with two independent suspension. Quite torsion resistant, but rarely used due to its complex structure and repair.

Peripheral or body frame

It has a narrow and front and rear, and the central part is expanded. This is done in order to lower the body into this part, making the car lower for higher aerodynamics.

"Racing" frame

It is not just a frame, but almost the entire frame of the car. It is built from extremely durable thin tubes. Such frames are used in racing cars, hence the name.

Combined frame

These frames include the above types of frames, but they have a lot of variations, which are a combined frame.

  • Fork frame - assembled from several types of frames. In its type there are the main elements of the spinal and spar type of the frame.
  • The design looks like this: longitudinal spars are used to the front and rear of the frame, which are necessary for attaching the vehicle components
  • A pipe is installed in the central part of the frame (unused for drive shafts).
  • Spars and beam are rigidly connected to each other. At the end it should be noted that this frame is used only in cars of certain classes. For example, Suzuki Grand Vitara new generation. In the previous body was just a frame.

Carrier frame

Bearing body - is reliably welded construction of steel forged parts. To date, the bearing body continues to displace frame cars. A feature of such a body is that the frame for the idea is missing altogether.

But at the same time all the main parts of the car are attached directly to the body. Since the entire load falls on the body, in some areas there are reinforcing elements that increase the rigidity of the whole structure. Now this type is present in almost all modern cars, crossovers and some low-power off-road vehicles.
