Many hoped to see the Jeep Compass compact crossover changer still in Geneva, but the new product did not appear at the big European auto show, leaving all the chances that the prediction about the debut at home in the USA during the 2016 New York Auto Show would come true.
However, even here disappointment awaited us - we didn’t show a new compact SUV to us like that. And all because, as it turned out, the manufacturer postponed the presentation of the car to ... the third quarter of this year - this is exactly the news told by the Australian magazine Motoring always generous on the comments head of Jeep Mike Manley.
But the most interesting thing is that instead of the United States, the company chose the South American market, or rather Brazil, as the debut site, since it is in this country that the first crossover production line will be established. At the same time, Manley explained that the model doesn’t have “any problems” and the project’s implementation is going well according to plan, approaching the presentation in the third quarter of the year.
So far, we know very little about the next Jeep. Thus, according to the internal nomenclature of the manufacturer, the car passes as “551”, and judging by the spy photos (see above), the design of the SUV will be closer to Compass than to the Patriot (the Compass single base, known in Russia as Liberty). The machine will be based on an extended Small Wide platform, and in 2017 we can see a converted version from Fiat.
As for the line of power units, then, apparently, it will be borrowed from a small Jeep Renegade, as well as a 9-speed automatic transmission.
