More than a year ago, at the Detroit International Motor Show, the restyled model of the Ford F-150 pickup truck was presented to the general public, mainly consisting of American motorists (photo below). The time and place of the presentation is not random. As you know, the main share of manufactured and sold pickups accounts for the North American (USA, Canada and, to a lesser extent, Mexico) market. And by themselves, these semi-cargo cars, intended for individual use, come from the United States of America - countries of boundless open spaces and huge private farms.

Hence the specific design of the car: in contrast to the SUV or crossover, the luggage compartment volume of which is limited to the top and sides of the body, the pickup, including the new 2018 Ford F-150 (pictured below), has a fully open top cargo platform, above which, however, if necessary, can be installed waterproof canopy or even a full-fledged tough protection. But even in the latter case, the pickup still does not go into the class of SUVs for at least two reasons:
- Cargo platform, which is an analogue of the luggage compartment, is structurally separated from the cab;
- The longitudinal dimensions of the platform in most cases, unless you are talking about mini-pickups, to which the 2018 Ford F-150 definitely does not apply, are longer than the length of the luggage compartment of SUV or CUV class cars (SUVs and crossovers, respectively).
The new Ford F-150 (photo below) does not apply, despite the expectations of numerous fans of the products of the oldest American manufacturer, to the new generation of F-150 pickups. The restyled model is a radically improved version of the thirteenth generation of cars, which was released in spring 2014. Since then, significant changes in appearance, as well as changes in the range of engines, were not observed - in particular, because Ford did not have a serious motivation.
